Unglamorized Truths About Toronto, Why We Left, and How We Find Peace Wherever We Are

As many of you probably know, Abby and I have both been Toronto girls—Abby for longer than me—but we came to realize that the city just wasn’t it for us. So, we made the decision to move back home while we figure out where our true “place” is.

Whether you're currently living in the city, loving it or hating it, or you're considering a move in or out, this episode dives into our real experiences in the big city. We’re sharing the highs, the lows, and some of the not-so-glamourized truths about Toronto.

Naturally, if you love Toronto and your heart is there, you probably will galmorize the city (like most do with their favorite places). Most people are drawn into Toronto when pursuing the corporate lifestyle. Abby and I have both realized our values don’t necessarily align with the big city lifestyle.

So you might be a small town girl thinking about moving to the big city (like us). This weeks blog is to help you find clarity, city or country girl?

A few reasons we didn’t stick to the big city lifestyle:

We aren’t granola girls, BUT we do love nature, living downtown TO just didn’t align with this value

people are always in a rush to get from point A to point B, and they WILL push you

The corporate world and the “status” aspect didn’t serve us

We found ourselves craving more friendliness and connection in our everyday interactions

How you can romanticize the city:

Getting out of the city to spend time with family

Appreciating small moments of gratitude when we found ourselves closer to nature & water

Take a Saturday or Sunday morning to visit Evergreen brickworks

Othership Contrast therapy

Morning Coffee & Treats at Nutbar

Join some type of community, run clubs, joining a studio etc. (WELL BYND for the wellness girls)

Ossignton vibes are unmatched! Head to Ossignton street for the perfect summer afternoon, stopping at Bellwoods brewery is a must, then head to Manita’s for the best burger in the city.

Romanticize your high rise Friday night dinner in. Abby and I’s favourite Friday night meal was to stop at Sobr Market for a Ghia then make a stop at whole foods to grab ingredients to make homemade pizza.

If you are in Toronto and feeling somewhat “stuck” in the city, this is your sign for reflection. Abby and I both went through this experience, our biggest pieces of advice:

Let go of your ego

Forget about status and security

Your happiness is more valuable than the title of job you have

These small moves aren’t permanent, take the leap of change to get one step closer to your happy place
