Social Media Trends: Are You Falling Into The Trap Too? How to Navigate Scrolling On Social Media.
This week, we’re breaking down some of the most popular trends we’ve seen all over social media. Speaking from experience, it’s so easy to fall into the trap of doing what everyone else is doing, even when it doesn’t serve you. So let’s help you come back to yourself and start scrolling with intention.
If you are an oatmeal lover but have seen the TikTok boycotting this breakfast, this one is for you. There has been a common trend telling us not to eat oatmeal for breakfast because it will spike your cortisol levels. Scientifically, yes oats are carbs so naturally your glucose will spike. But why aren’t we talking about the toast we are eating for breakfast that will do the same? What’s more important is how you’re building your meal. To meals to avoid the glucose spike, make sure you’re creating a balanced bowl with including proteins fats.
Jordan sister Oatmeal recipe:
1/3 cup gf oats
2/3 cup filtered water
2 egg whites (mixed in half way through cooking the oats)
splash of full fat milk
dash of maple syrup
Erika’s a banana girl, Abby’s a blueberry girl (organic ofc)
sprinkle of hemp seeds
& drizzle of organic almond butter
Abby and I are proud to be ahead of the beef trend (joking, kind of). After watching Lauryn Bostick and her beef bowl creation, we immediately hopped on the trend and have never looked back. One thing we have been cautious about is the consumption of protein. Social media often preaches the “one gram of protein per body weight”. This is not for every, an we have trial and errored to find the right amount for us with every meal.
Jordan sister tip: always look for grass fed, locally sourced, organic beef
We are guilty of cutting dairy out of our diets, convinced was the root of our digestion issues when really, it was just reacting to deeper imbalanced we looked past. Like many other girls out there we went through the alternative milk era and have finally circled back to our roots. Full fat, unmodified milk, removing the unnecessary processing added ingredients. However, this doesn’t mean Abby & I wont be cutting out a nut milk latte for good. Wellness is about tuning in, not following the trends. That being said, if we want an oat latte or nut milk beverage, we absolutely will enjoy every sip, but choosing our nut milks wisely.
First came Pilates princesses, now we are seeing strength training take over. There seems to be this trend of following a workout routine glamorized on social media. From Abby’s experience, she has noticed huge shifts as a result of strength training. On the flip side, she’s also experienced too much strength lead to increased inflammation. Our biggest takeaway from this? Just because a certain type of movement worked for someone else on social media doesn’t mean it will work the same way for you. Abby and I will always preach the power of dynamic workout routines and finding intuition in movement.
Extravagant skincare routines… I’ll never understand why people feel the need to try the newest trending product when their skin is already clear. Why pile on more when your skin doesn’t need it?
We all have different skin types, and experimenting makes sense when you’re working toward a specific goal. I always remind Abby to ask herself before she falls into the trap: Do you really need to add another serum or step just because you saw it on social media? Less is more.
We know we’re not the only ones who get caught up in social media’s trends. The most important thing is learning what truly works for you.
We’d love to hear from you: Which trends have actually made a positive impact in your life? Which ones are you rethinking?
