Twelve Lessons of 2024

The Christmas spirit is high, our Christmas pajamas are on and we are right beside the Christmas tree for this week’s episode. Like 12 days of Christmas, Abigail and I have created our own version: 12 lessons of 2024.

To kick off the lessons, our first one is, communication is key. Yes,  the title says it all. Abigail and I have become better communicators since working together to maintain a healthy relationship. Expressing how your feeling will help maintain boundaries between you and friends, and family. And finally… having self-awareness with your tone, facial expressions and how you craft up a text is something we are working on when it comes down to communication. Reaction won’t serve you.

Be present, appreciate the good moments that much more. Often, it’s easy to get caught up thinking about the next thing, having a futuristic mindset. Our advice is to be as present as you can, appreciating the present moment and you will show up as the better version of yourself.

Going with the flow causes less stress. Still learning and trying to channel this one… In 2025 we are surrendering to be more relaxed and happier versions of ourselves. Obviously, we can’t always just go with flow and things need to get done to be successful. What we are trying to let go of is micromanagement, especially with the things in life that we can’t always control.

Our third lesson, dairy is your friend not the enemy. There is often a negative associate with dairy because it “causes inflammation and digestion issues”. Most of the time, my digestion goes when stress is high. Mind body connection is everything. More recently, knowing the modifications in almond and oat milk, we have decided to come back to full fat, A2 dairy, leaving the preservatives, and modifications behind in 2024.

Listen more, talk less. Our dad preaches the importance of being a good listener. Whether it is a conversation with your best friend or sitting in a meeting, listening to what they have to say and not thinking about the next thing you’re going to say is essential for self growth and maintaining healthy relationships.

There are certain people that aren’t meant to be in your life – don’t force it, don’t be a people pleaser. This year has taught us that not everyone will align in your life. Everyone has different views, values and goals that just may not fit with yours. We are accepting that not everyone is going to get along, so why force things that aren’t meant to be.

Nature is a healing source. We have appreciated our hometown extra this year where we have been able to become closer to natures four elements. Abigail and I feel most grounded when we can connect with the simple things in life like going for a nature healing walk or listening to the waves crashing on the shore.

2025 is all about slowing down, taking a step back and finding clarity. It’s easy to get caught up in a fast-paced lifestyle, leading us to miss out on the present moment. Whether it’s work, working out, or cleaning up your space, the quality of work may meet less than its potential, when moving at the speed of light. Allow yourself to slow down but still getting sh*t done.

Your path isn’t linear, specifically referring to this one through a career lens. Many people have this idea of what their future will look like, yet people change, obstacles get in the way, and different decisions are made. The key is accepting that your path will likely change (probably more than once), go with it and know that all things fall into place when they are meant to be.

Everyone has a different perspective. Don’t try to change who you are to fit into a certain group or appeal to others. Our biggest lesson from starting this podcast is that everyone is going to have a different perspective and interpretations of our episodes. In 2025, we are reflecting, being more compassionate and putting ourselves in other people’s shoes.

The final (and most important) lesson, red meat makes you snatched. Thank you Lauryn Bostick for this one. We ended off 2024 prioritizing extra lean, grass fed beef with all our meals and will definitely be taking this into 2025 with us!
