Your Next Prime Minister, Robert Jordan (Aka World’s Best Dad)

This week we had the pleasure of our father Robert Jordan join the podcast. With the recent Canadian election and ongoing buzz around the US elections. We thought it was the perfect time to dive into our very first conversation on politics. We talk about fake news, how elections impact the economy and how our generation can navigate political discussions. We also pick dads brain on starting a business at 25, building meaningful business relationships and his own experience.

Reading the paper & watching the news for over thirty years, there were always both sides of politics. The more Robert noticed the information became to be one sided, after the election with Trudeau it became a struggle to find both sides in mainstream media.

After more than thirty years of reading the paper and watching the news, Robert always found both sides of the political spectrum regularly represented. But following Trudeau’s election, he noticed a shift in the media, increasingly leaned in one direction. It became a challenge to find balanced perspectives in the mainstream media.

Roberts Tips for Navigating Mainstream Media and Finding Both Sides:

Use AI to fact-check your sources
We all love the convenience of AI, so why not put it to good use. Ask AI tools to verify headlines, cross-reference stories, or summarize opposing viewpoints.

Pay attention to who you’re listening to
Consider the background, affiliations, and tone of the commentators or journalists. Are they presenting facts, or just reinforcing opinions you already agree with?

Robert’s go-to Canadian outlet for balanced coverage: The National Post
The National Post often presents both sides of political issues more clearly than most mainstream sources in Canada.

What even is fake news (misinformation)?

It started when trump was streamed across social media and claimed CNN as being misleading information channel and referring to it as “fake news

But how can you actually tell if something is fake news?

Fact-check it!

We talk tariffs, a popular word circulating the political world, and according to Abby all over her Instagram. Tariffs are costing for both Canadian’s and American’s, these trade barriers are making it more expensive to buy and sell across the border, hitting consumers on both sies.

From the U.S. perspective, the intention behind these tariffs is to encourage domestic spending and protect local industries. Whether that strategy pays off remains to be seen. It’ll be interesting to watch this unfold in terms of maintaining relationships & the state of the American economy over time.
