Dr. Erica Arcuri, Debunking Social Media Health Myths and Sharing Essential Supplements and Tips For the Change In Season
We are back with big sister Erica Arcuri to uncover the social media health myths that we are all guilty of falling for. So, we are sharing our take on these social media health myths and trends. And, if you’re like us and battling the seasonal changes, we have some tips for you to strengthen immunity and fight those winter blues:)
Myth #1… Fats make you fat. There’s a misunderstanding of fats because of their calorie density (more calories /gram). However, fats are essential for healthy hormone production, brain health and nutrient absorption. It all comes down to the fats you’re eating. The Jordan sisters (all three) steer clear of processed fats and always prioritize healthy fats. Here are a few of our favorites:
Avocado
Cashew Butter
Dairy
Nuts & Seeds
Olive oil, Avocado Oil & Beef Tallow
Eggs
Myth #2: Pilates makes you skinny. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Pilates. Its great for lengthening, strengthening your core and flexibility, but Pilates on its own probably won’t change your body composition. A dynamic workout routine is the recipe for the perfect body composition. A combination of strength, pilates and cardio will do the trick.
Myth #3: Intermittent fasting will make you lose weight. While there are benefits to intermittent fasting, there are so many different factors that determine whether it works for you or not. Hormone fluctuations, blood sugar regulation and cortisol levels all have an impact on how your body will respond.
Myth #4: Dairy free Alternatives are healthier than dairy. The Jordan sisters are back on their dairy grind. While dairy can be an inflammatory, choosing organic, high quality dairy products shouldn’t have these effects. Organic, grass-fed dairy IS better than any nut milk that’s loaded with additives and oils (and other sh*t). So, this is your sign to order your next coffee with whole organic milk OR check your ingredients in your nut milk (less is more).
Myth #5: Gluten free options are better than eating gluten. Gluten is an inflammatory and the Jordan sisters do avoid it. BUT, most of the gluten free alternatives are filled with tons of sugar and preservatives. If you’re cutting out gluten for a lower inflammatory diet, choose the whole foods alternatives. Here are a few of the Jordan sisters go to’s:
Chickpea or casava flour pasta
Sourdough bakery bread
Almond flour & Coconut Flour
Myth #6: Going Vegetarian and Vegan is healthier. The Jordan sisters cannot live without their beef bowls. Getting enough protein in a day is essential and including organic, grass-fed, animal protein in our diet are an amazing source of protein.
With the cold weather upon us, here are a few vitamins essentials Erica loves for immune system support (tune into the episode for all of their benefits):
Vitamin D
Zinc
Quercetin
NAC
Vitamin C
